We want our Hang my Hat holidays to be hero friendly. Nurses, police, teachers, firefighters, paramedics and (ex) service men and women, we and our cottage owners value your work on our behalf and some of our cottage owners are offering you a 5% discount on your stay in their holiday cottages. We appreciate your work and this is the proof.

To claim your discount, simply mention your work status when you ring or email to book your stay. The following properties are participating in the #HeroesDiscount and more will follow, so watch this blog - and watch the #HeroesDiscount hashtag on Twitter and Instagram!

The bluebells will be out soon by Redesmouth Cottage, sleeps 4, and there are so many country and riverside walks you can take right from the door. There is a secluded decking area just outside of the kitchen door. Bellingham Village is just 2 miles away.

Barrasford Cottage (sleeps 3) is nestled on a quiet lane in Barrasford, and has beams and an open fire. Steeped in ancient history, this peaceful village has a friendly pub, serving excellent food. Enjoy fishing, golf, walking and cycling nearby - and fabulous market towns Hexham and Corbridge are close. A stable door from the kitchen opens out onto the fully enclosed patio garden and open countryside views.

Campbell Gillies Lodge is set in a unique position on scenic Hexham racecourse, sleeps up to 8 in 4 bedrooms. The lodge is perfect for walkers, cyclists, romantic couples, families, and heroes! The twin bedded rooms and two shower rooms make it very flexible.

Gorgeous Henshaw Hideaway (sleeps 2 & 2) is near Hadrian's Wall and is perfect for a romantic getaway. The roomy decking looks right over the open Northumbrian countryside and there is a woodburner in the living room and a king-sized bed to relax in.

Kielder Cottage has the most beautiful views over Kielder Water, wonderful garden and patio - and parking large enough for a boat. Wildlife and woodland trails are on your doorstep - you will leave all thoughts of work right behind you.

With a waterfall a walk away, a country village and views all around you, what could be more relaxing than the setting of Hareshaw Linn (sleeps 2, above right), Bellingham (named for that waterfall)? Heroes welcome for a relaxing, rural break.

Please note, we will need proof of current occupation, such as a pay slip, at the time of booking.
